Cultural Exchange is the cornerstone of our J-1 program. We plan for at least 2 cultural activities a month, which means we have thousands of participants across the United States experiencing local culture. Cultural activities increase in the participant’s emotional ties to the community they’re living and working in, strengthens the relationships with their colleagues, and introduces Americans to invaluable experiences from the participant’s home culture.
A Spirit rep picked up 4 Thai students and met the rest of the students at the restaurant, Kingston House of Pizza in Kingston, MA. The students showed up late but still managed to eat almost all the pizza. We talked about differences in culture and they loved telling me about Thailand and the fun things to do there. Afterwards, we walked to the beach and lay in the grass playing the trivia game. They ran around on the beach taking pictures and then played on the playground.
