Cultural Exchange is the cornerstone of our J-1 program. We plan for at least 2 cultural activities a month, which means we have thousands of participants across the United States experiencing local culture. Cultural activities increase in the participant’s emotional ties to the community they’re living and working in, strengthens the relationships with their colleagues, and introduces Americans to invaluable experiences from the participant’s home culture.
Texas's first annual J-Day was launched in early August 2014 in Galveston. J-Day is a celebration of J-1 international exchange participants coming together in their host communities to facilitate cultural exchange. J-Day's theme was Eat, Play, Give. J-1 participants from around the area took a bus to Moody Gardens in Galveston, which is a non-profit tourist destination which educates visitors about wildlife and conservation. Participants were encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to a community charity organization. They also received America-themed souvenirs!
