In Round Rock, Texas, a heartwarming event recently brought together the community and Teachers from around the world to celebrate culture, connection, and education. Hosted by Round Rock Independent School District (ISD), this special gathering welcomed new J-1 international Teachers in Texas, many of whom are part of the Spirit Cultural Exchange Teacher Program.
Welcoming International Teachers to the Round Rock Community
About 150 guests attended the event and enjoyed a true taste of Texas with delicious barbecue. The celebration also featured impressive performances by local student groups. The Cedar Ridge Headliners varsity choir sang the US national anthem, while the cheer and dance teams from McNeil High School energized the crowd with their routines.
This event was more than just a welcome party. It was a meaningful way to show appreciation for the J-1 international Teachers in Texas who bring global perspectives and new ideas into Round Rock classrooms.
Lisa Marie Rosales, Assistant Director of Staffing and Recruitment, shared her thoughts:
“Round Rock ISD is grateful for our partnership with Spirit Cultural Exchange, which allows us to welcome talented international teachers who enrich our classrooms and bring global perspectives to our students.”
Sharing Global Stories in Texas Classrooms
Two J-1 international Teachers in Texas shared their personal experiences during the event. Carla Flores Garcia, a renewing Teacher, spoke about her journey to Round Rock and her first year teaching in the United States. Cynthia Patricia Escamilla, now in her third year, reflected on her life in the district and her connection to the community, expressing how much she feels at home in Texas.

Building Bridges Through the J-1 Teacher Program
Round Rock ISD continues to be a shining example of how Host Schools can create a welcoming environment for international Teachers. By supporting BridgeUSA cultural exchange programs, the district helps new Teachers feel comfortable, respected, and valued – not just as professionals, but as neighbors and friends.
Spirit Cultural Exchange plays a key role in making these connections possible. Through our J-1 visa Teacher Program, Teachers from around the world come to the US to share their knowledge and culture while learning about American life in return.
This celebration in Round Rock reminds us that when we open our hearts and minds to others, we build stronger communities – one teacher, one student, and one story at a time. Spirit Cultural Exchange is proud to support J-1 international Teachers in Texas who help classrooms thrive through cultural exchange and shared learning.
