To celebrate the holiday season, Spirit Cultural Exchange brought together local J-1 Teachers, Interns, and their families for a festive Intern and Teacher winter meet-up in Chicago. Spirit Cultural Exchange staff members Suzanne and Katie welcomed participants at the Wrigleyville Christkindlmarket, a traditional German-inspired Christmas market known for its cozy atmosphere, handcrafted gifts, and delicious seasonal treats.
Despite the chilly temperatures, we had an incredible turnout of about twelve J-1 Teachers and Interns, along with several J-2 dependents! Participants enjoyed strolling through the market, browsing unique vendor stalls filled with ornaments, pretzels, and other holiday favorites. Warm drinks were available to keep spirits high as everyone explored the festive surroundings.
After taking in the Christkindlmarket experience, the group headed over to Happy Camper for pizza, conversation, and a chance to warm up. The restaurant was extravagantly decorated with twinkling Christmas lights, creating the perfect backdrop for continued connection and holiday cheer.
Events like our Intern and Teacher winter meet-up in Chicago provide our J-1 participants with valuable opportunities to meet others who are navigating similar cultural and professional experiences in the United States. It was also a great chance for attendees to speak directly with Katie and Suzanne about any questions, comments, or concerns.
We hope everyone enjoyed this special holiday outing, and we look forward to hosting more events in the new year.
