Volunteer Event at the Greater Chicago Food Depository

At Spirit Cultural Exchange, giving back to the community is an important part of who we are. Through our “Spirit Gives Back” initiative, we aim to participate in at least two volunteer events each year, allowing our team to stay connected to the local community while supporting organizations making a real difference.

On April 23, 2026, eleven members of the Spirit Cultural Exchange team spent the afternoon at our volunteer event at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, one of the leading hunger relief organizations serving the Chicagoland area.

This was actually our second time volunteering with the Greater Chicago Food Depository. After such a positive experience last year, we were excited to return and support their mission once again. As a local organization with a strong impact and a well-organized volunteer program, the Greater Chicago Food Depository continues to be one of our favorite places to serve.

During our two-hour shift, our team worked together to pack potatoes for families across the region. By the end of the volunteer event at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, we helped pack an incredible 10,600 pounds of potatoes, enough to provide food for 3,180 households.

It was inspiring to see how much could be accomplished in just a short amount of time. The warehouse was filled with volunteers from all over the area, all working toward the same goal of helping fight food insecurity in our community. Seeing so many people come together for such an important cause made the experience even more meaningful.

One thing that always stands out to us about volunteering at the Greater Chicago Food Depository is how smoothly everything runs. Their team does an amazing job organizing volunteers, making it easy for groups like ours to jump in and make an immediate impact. From start to finish, the experience was efficient, welcoming, and rewarding.

Of course, Spirit Cultural Exchange also brought a little extra “team spirit” to the day. Vanna created matching T-shirts for everyone, which made us look very official and added a fun sense of unity to the volunteer event at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Gloria also coordinated the volunteer day and even organized lunch for the team beforehand, making the entire experience feel even more special.

At Spirit Cultural Exchange, we have a long history of volunteering at local food banks because we believe cultural exchange goes beyond international programs; it also includes being active, engaged members of our own local communities. Supporting organizations like the Greater Chicago Food Depository allows us to live out that value while strengthening our own team connections.

We are grateful for the opportunity to volunteer with such an impactful organization and look forward to continuing our “Spirit Gives Back” efforts throughout the year.

If your company is looking for meaningful team volunteer opportunities in Chicago, we highly recommend planning our own volunteer event at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. You’ll leave knowing your time truly made a difference.
