Spirit Cultural Exchange was proud to celebrate Lake Geneva Exchange Day 2026 with an unforgettable gathering in Wisconsin, graciously hosted by The Abbey Resort. More than fifty Exchange Visitors came together for a day filled with cultural exchange, community service, friendly competition, and new friendships.
Exchange Day is an annual celebration that highlights the impact of the US Department of State’s BridgeUSA Exchange Visitor Programs. It provides an opportunity for participants from around the world to connect with one another, experience American culture, and share their own traditions and perspectives.
This year’s event at Lake Geneva brought together participants from both Spirit Cultural Exchange’s Summer Work Travel and Internship programs. There were more than ten countries represented, including Brazil, China, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Jamaica, Mongolia, the Philippines, Romania, Spain, and Turkey. Seeing so many cultures represented in one place was a wonderful reminder of the power of international exchange.
With the World Cup serving as this year’s theme, participants spent the afternoon enjoying a variety of outdoor activities that encouraged teamwork, laughter, and cultural connection. Friendly games of soccer, volleyball, spike ball, bags (some might call this cornhole), and American football kept everyone active and engaged throughout the day.
One of the highlights was introducing Exchange Visitors to a few uniquely American pastimes. Many participants had never played bags before, making it especially fun to teach them the rules and watch them quickly become competitive. Others had their first opportunity to throw an American football, creating plenty of memorable moments and lots of laughter as everyone practiced their passing skills.
In addition to recreation, the day also included a meaningful community service project. Participants worked together to create handmade blankets that will be donated to the local Lakeland Animal Shelter. This activity reflected one of the core goals of the BridgeUSA programs: encouraging Exchange Visitors to engage with and give back to the communities that welcome them during their time in the United States.
And of course, no American summer celebration would be complete without a classic cookout! Participants enjoyed traditional favorites like hamburgers and hot dogs, and for some, it was their very first time trying a hot dog. Sharing a meal together provided another opportunity for cultural exchange, with participants comparing favorite foods from their home countries while experiencing a classic American barbecue.
Throughout the day, it was inspiring to see participants from different countries connecting so naturally, cheering one another on during games, working side by side on the service project, and forming friendships that crossed cultures and continents. These moments embody the true purpose of cultural exchange: building mutual understanding through shared experiences.

We are also grateful to every Exchange Visitor who attended and brought their enthusiasm, curiosity, and cultural pride to the event.
Exchange Day serves as an important reminder that the BridgeUSA programs are about much more than work or training. They are about creating meaningful connections, fostering global understanding, and celebrating the diversity that enriches our communities.
