Module 4: Addressing Disruptive Behavior is designed to help educators feel more confident, calm, and consistent when disruptions occur.
This module provides practical guidance on how to prevent disruptions before they start, while also equipping you with clear strategies for handling misbehavior when it does arise. You will learn how to spot early warning signs, respond in the moment, and avoid escalation. It’s about being proactive, not just reactive.
For example, verbal misbehavior might look like a student repeatedly calling out during a lesson or speaking disrespectfully to a peer. Physical misbehavior could include a student throwing an object in frustration or refusing to move when asked. In both cases, this module outlines how to maintain control of the situation without escalating tensions, focusing on de-escalation techniques, redirection, and reinforcing expectations.
You will also explore how to appropriately follow up after an incident to reset classroom expectations and avoid future disruptive behavior.
