J-1 Exchanges Update
On June 22, 2020, the White House issued a proclamation suspending some non-immigrant visas effective June 24 through December 31, 2020, with the possibility of continuation. This ban prevented thousands of J-1 exchange participants from arriving in the USA to participate in their scheduled exchange programs. Seasonal US businesses struggling to meet summer hiring demands and short staffed US school districts in need of native speaking foreign language teachers were left scrambling at the worst of times. Modifications to the proclamation may be periodically recommended throughout the proclamation’s effective period, and the latest 60 day review period will end September 24th. It is now more important than ever to let Washington know how this ban on J-1 programs is affecting your business, school or community. Visit www.savej1.org to learn more.
